- Sufjan Stevens, Prairie Fire that Wanders About (from Illinois, 2005)

There below, the grass and crops whisper to us that there is nothing more than peace, the omnipresent spirituality that resides in much of the rural places. Illinois is a strange place in it’s perpetual sameness, the middle of the Midwest. The Midwest’s slowness allows for a stronger sense of place that leads to that connection that city dwellers and rural folks share through different experiences. There’s no shaking what Central Illinois is to the Midwest, a posterchild for the spirit of the Midwest.

Somewhere between everything.
